Thorpe, Charles E.
Dr. Charles E. "Chuck" Thorpe was one of the earliest Ph.D. students in the Robotics Institute. Thorpe's work included mobile robots, navigation, and autonomous vehicles, working with the Mobile Robots Laboratory as well as the Navlab projects. Thorpe oversaw the Navlab projects during the 1990s and later served as director of the Robotics Institute from 2001 until 2004, when he became the inaugural Dean of CMU's Qatar campus.
