Haruhiko "Harry" Asada was a scientist with the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon. He and Takeo Kanade developed the Direct Drive Arm I, the first such manipulator of its kind. Asada has been a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 40 years.
