Tessellator was designed for manipulation work on NASA's Space Shuttle. Through a partnership with NASA, SRI International, and Rockwell International, Carnegie Mellon developed a robot to automate aspects of the ground crew's tasks at Kennedy Space Center. Tessellator was designed as a working product from the start, not as a prototype.
