The Nursebot project was a joint effort between Carnegie Mellon, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Michigan, and other researchers to focus on creating a robot that could assist human patients. The first iteration of the project was called Florence, after Florence Nightengale, while the second was called Pearl. Pearl was tested for use in a retirement community in the Pittsburgh area, speaking to residents and assisting them with tasks like appointment reminders and medication alerts.
