The cobots project, led by Manuela Veloso, were a study in autonomous mobile service robots. Cobots represent what Veloso calls a "symbiotic relationship" between humans and robots, one where robots aren't programmed to do everything themselves but where they learn to ask for help in situations where they need it, and conversely provide assistance to humans where they need it. The cobots were mobile, connected to the internet, and could travel throughout campus buildings like Newell-Simon Hall.
