Soccer robots
Soccer robots at Carnegie Mellon started in Manuela Veloso's lab, after she and her then-graduate student Peter Stone witnessed a robot soccer game at a conference. The soccer robots were innovative as an attempt to program a team of robots, completing multi-agent tasks on the field of play. The soccer robots grew from the initial models built with an erector set to omnidirectional four-wheeled models, while the leagues played expanded to include robot dogs and humanoid robots as well. The RoboCup Federation's World Cup is still played every year.
